EKO Stethoscopes For Hearts and Lungs
Eko Health Inc. is a health tech company which develops products like medical devices and clinical support AI. They have been reinventing stethoscopes since 2014 by making them digital with screens and clearer sound.
Apart from digital stethoscopes, Eko Health has developed the following technology:
- electrocardiogram (3-Lead ECG) that is attached to stethoscopes to measure the electrical activity of the heart.
- Eko mobile App which is a complementary product to the digital stethoscope. It helps doctors and nurses to visualise what they are hearing as well as record to relisten at a later time.
- SENSORA™ Platform was built for clinics and health systems to help detect valvular heart disease earlier.
All Eko Health products can be purchased on their online store: www.ekohealth.com/pages/shop.
HEART HEALTH FOR ALL
Eko’s mission is to detect and improve the management of cardiac and pulmonary conditions. For this reason, they developed the products they have to ensure that doctors offer the best possible care to their at-risk patients.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND EKO STETHOSCOPES
Eko Stethoscopes combine four advanced technological features into one medical device.
The first feature is TrueSound™ Technology which allows for optimal filtering, background noise reduction and in-ear speakers to minimise errors.
The second feature is visualisation. The processed audio is amplified and presented on a display screen to visualise ECG and heart rate data.
The third feature is AI algorithms used for disease detection. These analyse heart and lung sounds, comparing them to patterns associated with well-known conditions such as murmurs, arrhythmias, or lung abnormalities. If it finds any similarities, it will alert the clinician.
The fourth and final feature is Telehealth integration. Eko stethoscopes seamlessly connect to telehealth platforms, allowing for remote consultations, diagnoses and monitoring.
CLINICAL EVIDENCE
In a clinical study submitted at the 2023 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions, Eko Health carried out a clinical trial to determine if their AI-powered digital stethoscope could detect Valvular heart disease (VHD).
The experiment was carried out on 369 patients aged 50+ without prior VHD diagnosis and they found that AI significantly improved the detection of audible VHD compared to PCPs (94.1% vs 41.2% sensitivity) – PCP being standard stethoscope exam.

CUSTOMER CONSENSUS
According to the reviews on Reviews.io, a whopping 90% out of 403 genuine customer reviews recommend Eko stethoscopes.
The customers appreciated the next-generation features of Eko’s stethoscopes, (i.e. AI analysis, ECG capabilities, and disease indication).
To Wrap Up:
Eko Health is moving in a very promising direction. One that would help ensure optimum diagnosis of heart and lung conditions which would be quite beneficial to patients. It would also make doctors’ lives easier which cannot be seen as a bad thing.
